WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE CITIES ON EARTH?
Wow, that's a difficult question to answer because I've visited quite a few & each has something wonderful & unique about it. Having said that, I love Cairo for its organized chaos, Lugarno because of how the moon looks reflecting on the lake with the mountains in the background, Tokyo for the contrast between the hustle & bustle of the modern high-tech world versus the serenity of the ancient Shinto temples.
Last but not least, i LOVE Toronto. i was born & raised there but i completely took it for granted. i only realized how special it was after i left and moved to the US for a while. Toronto has the perfect mix of amazing restaurants, a strong arts/theater community, great shopping, and beautiful parks. Toronto was also named by the UN as the most multi-cultural city on earth - there are over 100 languages spoken in Toronto, for instance - and that has created these fantastic cultural communities where you can get authentic food, clothing, and entertainment from various cultures. Above everything else, Toronto is very clean for a big city!
and... i also love NYC :)
WHAT ARE THE MUST-GO PLACES (in your favorite cities)?
Cairo - the museum - it is AMAZING! I have been numerous times and each time i see something new. The history is so incredible, the statues so HUGE and the treasures from the tombs of the pharaohs are a must-see! one must also take time to dine at one of the restaurants on the Nile, particularly those serving fresh fish. Definitely must go to Kirdasa - a special market where crafts from furniture to fabrics are sold. And to the Ramses Wissa Wassef art center - an incredible place with the most special tapestries. Any one of the ancient mosques in the city are well worth a visit, especially for those who love architecture. Islamic architecture is very beautiful. Wow, Cairo is chock-full of places to go :) and i didn't even mention the pyramids! You must go visit the pyramids & the sphinx... and have lunch at the Mina House Hotel for the most amazing view of the Giza Plateau.
Lugarno - the main square where there are great boutiques, lively cafes and usually some sort of live music festival going on. Also time spent along the lake & at the top of san Salvatore offer gorgeous views.
Tokyo - the Shinto temples, any of the great Japanes gardens - particularly the one at the New Otani hotel, Harajuku district to people watch & shop for "interesting" items :) there's also an oriental bazaar which has beautiful antique kimonos & obis (i use them as belts!)
Toronto - for shopping - queen street, Yorkville & holt Renfrew :) food - any of the fantastic Indian restaurants, Terra restaurant. Outdoors - Toronto Botanical gardens (this is right by my house, so i bike there often!), Harbour front has some great restaurants and shops right on Lake Ontario, and Centre Island is a wonderful place to have a picnic lunch or day of leisurely biking. the Royal Ontario Museum is a must see! Wow, there's lots to do in Toronto :)
WHAT'S ON YOUR MIND? SOCIALLY, POLITICALLY, GENERALLY?
As a Canadian living in the US, I'm watching this Obama movement develop. I'm amazed by how many non-Americans are getting involved in the process. It's encouraging :)
Also on my mind... the water crisis in Africa, how I can reach more kids more quickly through my foundation (
In A Perfect World), and also how to address the desperate need for a health revolution in the US.
WHAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO YOU IN THE WHOLE WORLD?
Compassion

MUST HAVE ITEMS FOR FALL
This is my favorite time of year, perhaps because I'm born in September. I love the comfort & textures of clothes this time of year. I wear scarves/shawls year-round, but this time of year the heavier, plush ones come out. They are a necessity while traveling!
I love boots...wedge boots are perfect! Slouch boots are great too... with skinny jeans or sweater dresses. I love my cashmere blazer.... and I spend a lot of time in sweater dresses - great for going from work to dinner :) plum... I love the color plum & it definitely makes a statement. Velvet is great this time of year... rich, lush, dark.
